Weep not for what you have lost, fight for what you have. Weep not for what is dead, fight for what was born in you. Weep not for the one who abandoned you, fight for who is with you. Weep not for those who hate you, fight for those who want you. Weep not for your past, fight for your present struggle. Weep not for your suffering, fight for your happiness. Dear Friend,

Unfortunately, far too many Americans are retiring today WITHOUT a pension or predictable income stream that they can count on...

This is meant to provide general information on issues that many people consider in making the decision as to whether or not they should buy annuities; and if they do decide to buy, which types of annuities and which annuity benefits and additional riders will best suit their goals and needs. This information is not designed to be a recommendation to buy any specific financial product or service.

* Annuity guarantees rely on the financial strength and claims-paying ability of the issuing insurer.

** Some annuities may have a lifetime income guarantee as part of the base policy; others may have riders available for additional premium that provide this benefit.

^ Added income can be achieved using the JD Mellberg Annuity Strategies over using one vehicle, such as an annuity alone.

Saint of the Day (Tuesday, March 31, 2015)-St. Stephen of Mar Saba

St. Stephen of Mar Saba

Tuesday, March 31, 2015

Lived(d. 794) | Feast Day: Tuesday, March 31, 2015

A "do not disturb" sign helped today's saint find holiness and peace.

Stephen of Mar Saba was the nephew of St. John Damascene, who introduced the young boy to monastic life beginning at age 10. When he reached 24, Stephen served the community in a variety of ways, including guest master. After some time he asked permission to live a hermit's life. The answer from the abbot was yes and no: Stephen could follow his preferred lifestyle during the week, but on weekends he was to offer his skills as a counselor. Stephen placed a note on the door of his cell: "Forgive me, Fathers, in the name of the Lord, but please do not disturb me except on Saturdays and Sundays."

Despite his calling to prayer and quiet, Stephen displayed uncanny skills with people and was a valued spiritual guide.

His biographer and disciple wrote about Stephen: "Whatever help, spiritual or material, he was asked to give, he gave. He received and honored all with the same kindness. He possessed nothing and lacked nothing. In total poverty he possessed all things."

Stephen died in 794.

A Holy Week Message from Father Dan

Holy Week, 2015

Dear Friend of Franciscan Media,

We're at the start of Holy Week. This Thursday through Easter Sunday, April 5, the Church remembers the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus. These high holy days celebrate the Paschal Mystery—God's plan for all humankind.

In his life Jesus proclaimed the reign of God, the powerful presence of God's love in human history. He still invites us to live God's plan of love in our own lives. This week's memorial of Christ's passion, death and resurrection challenges us to take up our crosses each day as we serve others—sacrificing ourselves in love for family, neighbors and strangers. The mystery is that if we die to ourselves and give ourselves in service to others, we will find true freedom and life everlasting. As Jesus proclaimed: "Unless the grain of wheat dies, it remains just a grain of wheat, but if it dies, it brings forth much fruit" (Jn 12:24).

Please help our Franciscan ministry of spreading the Gospel. Every day our work touches the lives of many thousands. Become a partner in evangelization by supporting our ministry through your prayers and generous donations. Pope Francis keeps asking all of us to share the Gospel, especially in the new forms of communication. We started using the "new media" to proclaim the Gospel years ago. Today Franciscan Media reaches over a million people each month through our outreach in its multiple forms—websites, electronic newsletters, Saint of the Day, Catholic Greetings and so forth.

Help us expand our reach. Your tax-deductible contribution to our ministry helps grow the seed of faith around the world. You are already a part of the Franciscan family! That is why I appeal to you. Please help us with your prayers and contributions.

I pray that this Holy Week will be a truly blessed celebration of faith and love. May the life, death and resurrection of Jesus strengthen us and grace our broken world with peace.

Gratefully yours,

Fr. Dan Kroger, O.F.M.
