St. Wolfgang of Regensburg
(c. 924-994)
Listen to Saint of the Day
Wolfgang was born in Swabia, Germany, and was educated at a school located at the abbey of Reichenau. There he encountered Henry, a young noble who went on to become Archbishop of Trier. Meanwhile, Wolfgang remained in close contact with the archbishop, teaching in his cathedral school and supporting his efforts to reform the clergy.

At the death of the archbishop, Wolfgang chose to become a Benedictine monk and moved to an abbey in Einsiedeln, now part of Switzerland. Ordained a priest, he was appointed director of the monastery school there. Later he was sent to Hungary as a missionary, though his zeal and good will yielded limited results.

Emperor Otto II appointed him Bishop of Regensburg (near Munich). He immediately initiated reform of the clergy and of religious life, preaching with vigor and effectiveness and always demonstrating special concern for the poor. He wore the habit of a monk and lived an austere life.

The draw to monastic life never left him, including the desire for a life of solitude. At one point he left his diocese so that he could devote himself to prayer, but his responsibilities as bishop called him back.

In 994 he became ill while on a journey; he died in Puppingen near Linz, Austria. His feast day is celebrated widely in much of central Europe. He was canonized in 1052.

Comment:
Wolfgang could be depicted as a man with rolled-up sleeves. He even tried retiring to solitary prayer, but taking his responsibilities seriously led him back into the service of his diocese. Doing what had to be done was his path to holiness—and ours.

----- Forwarded Message ----- From: SarahNJoe To: Work Joe Bogusz Sent: Tuesday, October 30, 2012 11:42 AM Subject: Prayers for my sister in Syria Dear family and friends, As I have promised all of you, I will send updates from Syria as they become available. I received an email from my brother-in-law today, he made it home, Thanks be to God for hearing all of your prayers. He told me that it was a miracle that he made it in "one piece". He risked his life taking the long road to Aleppo regardless to the warning of many good meaning people who warned him against it. The rebels are often hide along the road and they attack any car that comes along the way, booby trap the road with explosives, or throw grenades at busses and cars. Thank you so very much for all of your prayers through which the Lord kept him safe on his travel. As he made it home, he realized that the living conditions had become impossible to bare. No food or water, nor electricity or heat for days on end. They have decided to take the risk and flee at day break tomorrow pending that the road is safe to travel. So he send me an email asking me to beg all of you prayer worriers to storm heaven on his family's behalf. He wants to take them to Damascus which is in a better shape than Aleppo at this time. Even though it is not completely safe, there is food, water and more hours of electricity. My sister and the girls are terrified. They are afraid to leave the room they are in, he is trying to convince hem that everything will be OK (even though he knows that his promise doesn't hold water and it is completely in God's hands). Please pray that the Lord open the road wide and clear in their travel path. Pray that they arrive safely to Damascus. Please pray to St. Anthony to help them find a place to stay/live in Damascus. Please pray that their lives, souls and faith be protected through it all. We need prayers from 2AM-10AM CST on Wednesday, 10/31 to sustain them on their dangerous journey. So I beg you if you are woken up in the middle of the night tonight for any reason, just say a little prayer for them. If you are up with the baby or your sick loved one, please say a prayer for them. If you are going to Mass tomorrow morning, please say a prayer for them. My sister's birthday was yesterday and my brother-in-law's birthday is 11/1 on All Saints. May the Saints in heaven watch over them all and protect them so they may finally be able to get to a Mass on the Feast of All Saints in Damascus for the first time in months. If all goes well according to God's plan, I should receive an email around this time tomorrow from them to let me know that they are OK. I pray that the Lord hear your prayers and we will get an update tomorrow. God bless you all and thank you in advance for your generous time and prayers Sarah Bogusz

Lord thank you for all the blessings you have bestowed upon me and my son. I trust that you guided me to the right decision. Please help Benny with his troubles and help his attorney come to an agreement with the DA. My son misses him so much. Please Lord continue to help him. Lord I plead to you to care for those affected by the storm.

Teresa Tuesday, October 30, 2012
Lord I beg of you to please forgive me of all my sins and to watch over me and my children and to continue to keep us all safe from harm and the evils of the world. Please God pass the inspection on our new house we found as we move in Thursday and inspection is Friday if it does not pass we will have to move back out and we have no where else to go from there. So I beg of you father to finally give us this happiness we so rightly deserve. Please forgive me of all my sins and wash me clean of all my bad father. Please give me patience and guidence and please help my son to be filled with happiness, faith, love and hope and guide him on the right path. Forever in your heart I pray. Amen

Divine Father, lift me out of my present emotional torment, pain and complication. I am involved with a person for several years but can't find a solution. I don't know what's in his mind. Help me Father with your decision. Unite me with my loved one or get me out of this difficult situation without any ill-feeling or negative sentiments. I dont wish to linger in this relationship if it is not your will. Help me Father, please help me out and until such time you take a decision, grant me patience, endurance and tolerance to bear this pain
