St. Andrew
Listen to Saint of the Day
Andrew was St. Peter’s brother, and was called with him. "As [Jesus] was walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is now called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen. He said to them, ‘Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.’ At once they left their nets and followed him" (Matthew 4:18-20).

John the Evangelist presents Andrew as a disciple of John the Baptist. When Jesus walked by one day, John said, "Behold, the Lamb of God." Andrew and another disciple followed Jesus. "Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them, ‘What are you looking for?’ They said to him, ‘Rabbi’ (which translated means Teacher), ‘where are you staying?’ He said to them, ‘Come, and you will see.’ So they went and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day" (John 1:38-39a).

Little else is said about Andrew in the Gospels. Before the multiplication of the loaves, it was Andrew who spoke up about the boy who had the barley loaves and fishes (see John 6:8-9). When the Gentiles went to see Jesus, they came to Philip, but Philip then had recourse to Andrew (see John 12:20-22).

Legend has it that Andrew preached the Good News in what is now modern Greece and Turkey and was crucified at Patras.

Comment:
As in the case of all the apostles except Peter and John, the Gospels give us little about the holiness of Andrew. He was an apostle. That is enough. He was called personally by Jesus to proclaim the Good News, to heal with Jesus' power and to share his life and death. Holiness today is no different. It is a gift that includes a call to be concerned about the Kingdom, an outgoing attitude that wants nothing more than to share the riches of Christ with all people.

Quote:
“...[T]he Twelve called together the community of the disciples and said, ‘It is not right for us to neglect the word of God to serve at table. Brothers, select from among you seven reputable men, filled with the Spirit and wisdom, whom we shall appoint to this task, whereas we shall devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word’” (Acts 6:2-4).

Sharing Jesus

If we consider all that God has done for us in the past, we might begin to understand that there is nothing we haven't been given. And once we know we have it all, it's only natural to want to share that with others. This Christmas, bring that little bit of Jesus you carry in your heart wherever he directs you.

Pray for Us: Daily Prayer Requests

Prayer Requests

Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Philippians 4:6

Together, let us pray for the needs of our brothers and sisters. Please remember these intentions in your daily prayers.

Fernando Thursday, November 29, 2012
Please ask God to forgive my sins, help me to be a better person, continue to bless the relationship between my girlfriend and I and to guide us to His Will.

Ester Thursday, November 29, 2012
Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You in my weakness... so weak in trusting in Your mercy and love for me as a sinner, I feel. Forgive me Lord, for I am a sinner, prone to sinfull thoughts and who look at things from the world's perspective sometimes, more frequently than I want to. O Lord, help me to be steadfast in faith in Your goodness and mercy for me in my circumstances and not be overpowered by the evil one. Lord Jesus, You told St Paul that You will show him how much he will have to suffer for Your Name's sake. You gave him the longsuffering courage and steadfastness in dreadfull circumstances. I ask for You to do the same for me, Lord. Help me not to become the pathetic bitter revengefull insane deserted woman, from a divorced husband as if it is God who deserted her, as if it is Jesus who deserted His bride and for whom there is no hope, for it is only hell that awaits her forever and ever. Lord renew my strenght. Help me to believe that what You have in mind for me is the saving of the souls of my children and husband and that I am able to fulfill my calling as wife and mother to participate wholeheartedly in Your saving grace for my family. Help me to do what it takes to let no one of them, my husband and children, whom You gave for me to guard over on earth, perish in hell. Only have mercy on me that I will not fall and be crushed by the heaviness of this burden, now, in these days that all evil seems to break loose and get the upper hand in my marriage. I despair Lord, come to my aid. Renew my faith, purify my heart, give me wings like the eagle and restore my youthfull energy, my faith, hope and love. I trust in You Lord Jesus to empower me through Your redemption-work, to follow You every step of the Way, in Trust and Love, through Calvary, to where You sit at the right hand of the Father and triumph over sin and death. O, Mary, my mother, worthy to be made queen of heaven and earth, pray for me and my family, guide and comfort me in all my heartbreak and despair. St Michael, defend me against evil powers and protect my family. In Jesus Name. Thank you. Amen

Please pray for my sister who has been struggling with a brain injury and cannot work. She applied for a disability but was denied. They are now working on an appeal. Please pray that her attorney can get the process moving quickly and that he has the guidance and help from our Lord to get this disability approved quickly. She is a single mother and is struggling so much and cannot pay her bills. I worry about her and her boys so much. Please pray for me to continue to have the strength to help her; and also pray for my son who is so talented at basketball. Pray that he can find the "heart" and not be so intimidated when he plays. "Ask and you shall receive, we have been asking". Dear Lord, please hear our prayers. Amen. Jill

Heavenly Father I humbly stand before you with praise thanks and gratitude for all the blessing you've provided my family and friends during this time of tribulation. My company announced recently they'd lay off two of the five people in my work group. I've been praying and asking you to stand with me in prayer since and learned I'll not be at risk at this time. The lord has heard and answered our prayers but I must still continue to ask for prayer for those who are not being retained and for my own position as they may still be asking for an additional two people be let go from my work group. Please agree in prayer with me I'll continue to have employment without interruption or lay off and the lord will open a position for me in another more stable area of my company. In Jesus name, Amen!

My husband is weighing on my heart and mind tonight... I have been praying the Warfare Prayers, the hedge of protection prayer and the Armor of God prayers for my husband and the restoration of our marriage... God hate divorce... God has promised the restoration of our marriage and promised that my husband will be home. Tonight I am asking for ALOT of prayers that my husband will desire and want to return to the Lord, leave the other woman, want to repent and COME HOME!! Heavenly Father stopped the divorce proceedings once (as Promised) and He will stop it again.. for good this time... please pray for my husband and for me to have peace, strength and comfort for this trial and test that I have been given. Granted it took both of us.. and I have forgiven my husband and pray for him day and night... the o/w has changed the phone number so I can't call him and sends back things I have sent to him...has manipulated him in to changing e-mail addresses.. my husband deals with depression because of his illness therefore making him vunerable.. please pray for us and that he will find a way to communicate with me SOON!!

Dear Lord: I am sorry for seeking and viewing pornography, notably couples having sex. Sex is only to be shared between husband and wife. I am sorry for the weakness and misjudgement. I pray this does not affect my family or my job. I pray I am able to keep my job in the face of upcoming layoffs and I am able to continue my work and provide for my family, our Parish, our Community and those in need. I pray for all who wrestle with demons and addiction to pornography or any other vice. Jesus is Lord! Lord hear our prayers! Amen!
