Children wait for Christmas with great longing. Santa Claus gifts and new toys are in the air. Never mind that some gifts were clothing. For children what counts are the toys. I remember in my own childhood, getting a bicycle was awesome.
Today the run-up to Christmas has deeper significance for me. Advent is the season when we watch and pray in preparation for the coming of the Lord. Christians developed all sorts of pious customs concerning Advent. Fasting, Advent wreaths, days of prayer, penance services and more are on that list. Today we look forward to the feast while remembering that Christ has already been born into human history. He came to proclaim the Good News that God loves us, his sinful people. This is the mercy that Pope Francis asks us to celebrate during the Holy Year of Mercy that begins December 8.
Proclaiming the Gospel is what Franciscan Media does every day. Our mission is why we do so many things as a Catholic publisher. We create websites with Saint of the Day, Minute Meditations, Sharing the Word, Catholic E-Greetings, American Catholic Radio, church news. We offer blogs, religious fiction, inspirational books and our award-winning St. Anthony Messenger magazine.
During this Advent season, please consider partnering with Franciscan Media in our mission of spreading the Good News that is Jesus Christ. Together, let us share God's mercy during this Holy Year. Would you consider donating $50, $75, $100 or more so that we may continue to evangelize in the spirit of St. Francis? Your donation in any amount touches thousands with the Gospel every day.
Use our secure online donation form or mail a donation, payable to the Franciscans, to Franciscan Media, 28 W. Liberty St., Cincinnati, OH 45202. If you prefer you may phone in a credit-card donation for our evangelization ministries at 1-866-543-6870.
Peace and every blessing,
Fr. Dan Kroger, O.F.M. Publisher, Franciscan Media
