The Year of Mercy might be ending, but Pope Francis encourages us to extend it far beyond the Jubilee Year.
God's patience has to call forth in us the courage to return to him, however many mistakes and sins there may be in our life. It is there, in the wounds of Jesus, that we are truly secure; there we encounter the boundless love of his heart.

Year of Mercy: Life Over Death in Caloocan City
This Jesuit is bringing the Works of Mercy into some of the most dangerous streets in the Philippines.
As the body count rises in the Philippines' war on drugs, Father Luciano Feloniis trying to create a space where healing takes precedence over killing. Risking his own life, he's helping to save the lives of many others.
As Christ taught us, the key to loving your neighbor is learning how to love yourself.
When we look more closely at what Jesus taught, we notice first that he said, "Love your neighbor as yourself," not "then yourself." He calls us to love ourselves in equal measure to loving others. How can this be selfishness if we are commanded by Jesus to do so?
To bring about peace, we must first return to the Gospel.
Peace is a Gospel imperative. Pope Francis asked during a peace vigil once: "Can we get out of this spiral of sorrow and death? Can we learn once again to walk and live in the ways of peace?"
