The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus--a Feast of Love

So today is a simple, yet profound feast--a day to celebrate the love Jesus has for each of us personally, and to respond to that love.

Dear, Wisdom,

The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a feast of love.

On December 27, 1673, a simple French sister, Margaret Mary Alacoque, had a little extra free time, so she decided to spend it in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. During that time of prayer, she had an intense encounter with Jesus that has affected our devotional lives to this day. She saw an image of Jesus' heart, burning with a loving fire. The words she heard from the Lord were, "My Divine Heart is so consumed with love for men, and for you in particular." On today's feast, we celebrate the burning love that Jesus has for each one of us. Today is a simple yet profound feast. It is a day to celebrate the love of God—and to respond to that love.

Would You Like to Spend Time with Jesus?

St. Margaret Mary Alacoque spent a few moments in prayer, and the world was changed through her encounter with Christ. Jesus is always inviting us to spend time with him, though sometimes we feel inadequate. We've selected some books that will help you to make that personal connection with the Lord. We hope these selections will help you respond to Jesus' invitation as you observe this beautiful feast day.
