| The clang from the Abbey's bell tower reverberates throughout the grounds and into our workshop. A buzz fills the air with the smell of sawdust. Fingers trace the grooves in each unique casket lid, and the wood feels smooth beneath hands calloused from labor, yet gentle from prayer. Trappist Caskets are handcrafted and personalized by the monks of New Melleray Abbey, mainly from wood sustainably harvested from our own 1200-acre forest. Each piece of wood is unique, as are the people whose lives they will honor. Along with prayer and study, our casket ministry is an extension of our sacred work. As we reflect on our work, we often pray our work will bring comfort to families as they remember and celebrate the unique loves of their loved ones.
