Blessed Rafal Chylinski Tuesday, December 2, 2014 Lived(1694-1741) | Feast Day: Tuesday, December 2, 2014
Born near Buk in the Poznan region of Poland, Melchior showed early signs of religious devotion; family members nicknamed him "the little monk." After completing his studies at the Jesuit college in Poznan, Melchior joined the cavalry and was promoted to officer rank within three years. In 1715, against the urgings of his military comrades, Melchior joined the Conventual Franciscans in Krakow. Receiving the name Rafal, he was ordained two years later. After pastoral assignments in nine cities, he came to Lagiewniki (central Poland), where he spent the last 13 years of his life, except for 20 months ministering to flood and epidemic victims in Warsaw. In all these places, Rafal was known for his simple and candid sermons, for his generosity, as well as his ministry in the confessional. People of all levels of society were drawn to the self-sacrificing way he lived out his religious profession and priestly ministry. Rafal played the harp, lute, and mandolin to accompany liturgical hymns. In Lagiewniki he distributed food, supplies, and clothing to the poor. After his death, the Conventual church in that city became a place of pilgrimage for people throughout Poland. He was beatified in Warsaw in 1991. Comment: The sermons preached by Rafal were powerfully reinforced by the living sermon of his life. I may still work in secular areas like in academic institutes and I hope that dream comes true. Please pray for this single life to be protected from the embarrassments and pressures and scorn I experience from family and other Christian friends and leaders I talk with or listen to. Please pray that scripture will not be twisted to attack this kind of life devoted to God. I know that there are bad reasons why people feel obligated or fear of missing out as why they feel they must be single and celibate but i truly want this for pure reasons. i truly think that in my case i will be fulfilling what desire I have and that i would be overjoyed if God actually intentioned and planned this for me and that this is his will because then i\'d feel more confident and less afraid i am rebelling against God which is something people imply because they think it is unnatural. but i see that my parents although they have a good marriage that they don\'t have time or resources to love others outside their family and indeed don\'t really want to have anything to do with me anymore either because i am old and i am a burden to them financially. please pray that God will give me a home soon. please pray that he will give me finances and peace within and protect mefrom predators and seductive paths.
